BACK IN BUSINESS, BABY!!! See MAIN JOURNAL for more details!!!!!

The Star Games are coming.

Excitement is thick in the air, and every planet with a sense of entertainment has been preparing for the event for several months. One can hardly go anywhere without ads and paraphernalia concerning the games becoming a part of their everyday lives.

No one yet knows anything specific about the games other than they are coming and what sponsors the Zelian councils have approved. Shrouded in mystery, the events surrounding the preparation and organization have been jealously guarded. Not even the most determined reporter has been able to gather the barest scrap more of information than is allowed to the public.

What is well known, however, is that representatives are coming, and they’re looking out for anyone who might be worthy of becoming a part of Astrum Venatus and eventually winning the grand prize of 'One Dream Fulfilled' and all that such imaginings could entail. Select planets all over the known universe have been constructing large arenas, readying them for a large crowd and some intense battles for the right to be called a contestant in the Star Games.

Advertisement companies are going all out to make sure their clients get their money’s worth.

What only a few know is that the newly chosen ‘Host’ of Astrum Venatus is more reluctant than he seems. Not a part of the competition by his own will, the Myteril Nevermind is anything but what one could consider public material. He’s secretive, dislikes crowds, and for the most part, he has no idea what to expect out of his new position. All he knows is that he gets his orders from the Zelians, and that he can’t change that fact no matter how much he hates it.

Nonetheless, he does a good job. There’s no point in doing otherwise.

This is where you come in.

Nevermind’s job is to find contestants for Astrum Venatus. Though he dislikes crowds and the like, he has to go and meet face to face with likely potential participants. Your character will have to meet him and be approved by either him OR the Zelians communicating with Nevermind via the Myteril’s headset.

There’s a good chance Nevermind will try not to meet people. He’ll do his best to not be seen and blend into the crowd as much as possible unless told otherwise by the same Zelians. Potential participants will have to either be a part of the more public battlers that are trying to get into the games, worthy of a second glance, or they will have to meet him in some other manner. Be creative!

Yes… this does mean that you must write an audition piece in order to qualify for a place in the final Roster for this OCT.

A good audition should have all of the following:

1. Your character should be AT THE MINI COMPETITIONS. These miniature, grandstand arena-style competitions are for the best and most skilled across several planets in the area to fight publicly in hope of gaining the attention of the Zelians or Nevermind so that they may participate. However, Nevermind and the Zelians will not always pick the best fighter. They enjoy surprising the crowd and everyone else by oftentimes picking from the crowd itself, or even from the people that lose their battles. Being a winner there does not guarantee entry. So you do not have to be IN the competition to be chosen to participate, but you do have to be there.

2. Your character needs to meet Nevermind. Because, seriously, he’s the middleman. You cannot get into Astrum Venatus unless you have met and been approved by Nevermind; it’s simply not happening. Zelians will not be coming to your character for any reason; they stay out of all social dealings except for those with the high-end people, and even then, it’s limited.

3. Your character must agree to participate in Astrum Venatus or be dragged into it in some way, shape, or form. Otherwise, why are you auditioning? Your character does NOT have to like or even want to be IN the competition. However, it’s up to you to decide how they get in if that’s the case. Be creative, but be reasonable.

Things that you may include:

These things aren’t required, but you can feel free to include them in your entry!

1. The ship: I’ve left it open so that people may write their characters getting into the ship. The thing is HUGE, but it’s also rather simple in design. (The only thing I care about consistency with is the frosted glass look of the thing, *hinthint*) Things are where you’d think they are, and not in some random place. There is also a cafeteria, lunchroom, rec room, barracks, bathrooms, study/computer rooms… your character will have a lot to explore if they choose to do so.

2. Other Planets: The Prompt planet is NOT the only planet Nevermind will be visiting. So feel free to make a planet environment of your choosing if you feel like it! Just to make sure people don't get the wrong idea and think that they have to write that particular planet (not that I gave much description, but you know).

3. Meeting the other Judges: Marceles, Quark, Truezho, and Nevermind are the ONLY officials on the ship. The others judges are all on the very first planet in the actual star games, being housed in special Judge Suites. However, your character is free to meet the four characters available.

4. Fun in the Dorms!!: The Barracks that house the competitors are separated into several large rooms where characters will be bunked with other competitors. They’re very simple, and there will be four to a room, unless a character can pay or is lucky enough to get one of the rare two-bed rooms. Characters with a supporting character will automatically be bunked together, however, single characters will be assigned together, and the placing is random and co-ed. (Read: if you guys have plans for characters, feel free to say certain pairs are bunked in the same room. Fight over the top bunks all you like! I’m not going to assign any official bunking order; this part is simply for the fun and chaos of it, so go wild.)

Things to watch out for:

Don’t put the Zelians as public figures. They are not.

Nevermind can and will flirt. Don’t be afraid to make him do so, but remember… he’s being watched and he’s on a job.

None of the four judge characters are to be written in first person perspective. You don’t know what they’re thinking >>

Having fun is not against the rules. Have loads!

How to send things in:

An audition needs to have AT LEAST a completed Character Profile made from the template here, and an original written audition piece made by the owner of said character. If a person’s character is of an original species, they must also turn in a Species Template (found here).

Vampires, werewolves, humans, mages, etc. do NOT have to have a species template made unless their particular ‘breed’ is DRASTICALLY different from what is considered the ‘norm’.

Character Profiles, Auditions, and etc. must all be separate deviations.

ALL MATERIAL FOR THE AUDITION MUST BE TURNED IN AT THE SAME TIME. VIA NOTES. >>

I will ignore/void all entries that have not been completed as per my instructions here.

Some questions:

How much time does my character have to gather supplies before the ship leaves?

Your character can bring anything they think they need along, since though meals and lodging are provided, the Star Games are not going to be handing out changes of clothing. BUT the time they have to gather said things varies depending on when Nevermind approves them for participation. It could be anything from twenty minutes to four hours. It’s really up to you how rushed you want to make things.

What happens to characters that don’t get into the final roster?

The characters that don’t make it into the final roster will nevertheless be allowed into the Star Games as special guests. They’ll get some great seats and service, and are free to stick around and be pals to the people they got to know on the ship!

Is Nevermind always going to be in the ‘spectator box’ mentioned?

Good question, and the answer is no. After the official battles, and during the less hectic times, Nevermind will be floating around (probably taking advantage of the concessions stands. He has such a weakness for junk food >> ) and otherwise trying not to gather too much attention.

'One Dream Fullfilled' is kinda vague. What does that mean?

It means exactly what it says it means. If the character entering has a life dream, or something they wish to accomplish, then it will be done. This can be nearly anything; Zelians are very ancient and very powerful creatures that have had a lot of time to figure out how to work out certain things in the fabric of the universe. So if your character wants it badly enough, they have a chance to get it now, whatEVER it may be.

(This section will be added to as I get more questions pertaining to the auditions)

Spectator Entry opportunity:

Personally, I think the Barracks idea gives some GREAT opportunity for SEs. Cause AS MUCH MISCHIEF AS POSSIBLE ON THE SHIP. Seriously. I’ll love you for it XD

Final Words:

This seems like a lot of information, yes, but it’s really just a lot of me rambling. XD the biggest point of any OCT is to have fun with it. The prize doesn’t really matter, it’s the people you meet and the spirit of friendly competition that drives any Original Character Tournaments to be half as good and addicting as they are.

So I ask that you guys just enjoy yourselves. If you have any questions, note me, and I’ll answer asap. As for meeting people, everyone who’s entering should come on into the Stargame Chatroom . We don’t bite! And in there, you can meet other people who want to participate and maybe talk some science fiction or whatever else you feel like talking about.

Wooo! Time to finish of the character profile/species template and start an audition! :eager:

One question (no promises that it'll be the only one though :3 ).
How much info do we need about secondary characters? No wait, it's two questions!
And do we need to do a character profile for them as well?

XD well, it depends entirely how involved your secondary character might be, but I would much prefer you do a character profile for them, as well, yes. Even so, if you want them to be mysterious, you don't have to fill out gobs and gobs of history or whatnot, but just be sure they have a good, solid reference in case your opponents will try writing them, ne?

Also heck yes, good to see you coming in!

If you plan on doing tag-team battles, you'll especially want to fill out a detailed ref for your secondary character. In general, it's better to give yourself and your opponent more to work with, for consistency and practice if nothing else. :3

Look and you shall find. In theory.
